Gaming Platform Performance:
CrossFire performance in Call of Duty is well and truly crippled, despite confirming that we had "optimise for SLI" enabled (this optimises for multi-GPU situations, rather than SLI "only") along with also checking that CrossFire was enabled in Catalyst Control Center. The limitation of only x4 bandwidth for the second card, in addition to the CrossFire overhead means that the multi-GPU frame rate is actually lower than a single 7900 GTX. Even a single 7900 GTX is slower in Call of Duty 2 by several frames per second that the other boards, despite the fact they are all running the same PCI-Express x16 bandwidth.
Quake 4 performs far better and doesn't seem to suffer the same bandwidth limitation, although the CrossFire score is still lower than the single card speed. Half-Life 2: Episode 1 is the least limited and even sees a positive increase when using X1900 CrossFire, although at several hundred frames per second you aren't going to see a difference.
